The National Arts Council (NAC) wishes to inform the arts and cultural sector that the appeals process for the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP 6) has been concluded.

The appeals process was undertaken at the request of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) as part of the implementation of PESP 6. Following the conclusion of the process, the recommendations of the independent Appeals Panel have been approved by the Accounting Authority.

The appeals process reflected the continued demand for funding within South Africa’s arts and cultural sector. A total of 258 appeals were received, representing a combined funding request of R137 075 508.40, against an available appeals budget of R1 121 110.00, equivalent to 1% of the overall PESP 6 grants budget. Following the adjudication of the appeals, nine (9) projects were approved for funding based on the approved appeals criteria and within the available budget.

Successful appellants will be notified directly, and the list of approved beneficiaries is available on the NAC website. Funding will be administered in accordance with the applicable grant conditions.

The National Arts Council thanks all applicants who participated in the appeals process and appreciates their continued commitment to the growth and development of South Africa’s creative sector.
