UPDATE ON 2026/27 ANNUAL PROJECT FUNDING CALL OUTCOMES

Media Statement: For immediate release                                27 May 2026

The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) wishes to update stakeholders regarding the 2026 Annual Project Funding Call outcomes.

Earlier this year, the NAC invited applications from active creative practitioners across the seven disciplines of Craft, Dance, Literature, Music, Multidiscipline, Theatre, and Visual Arts. The initial release of funding outcomes had been scheduled for 29 May 2026.

Following careful consideration of recent governance and operational developments, including matters relating to the dissolution of Council, the NAC has taken the decision to extend the timeline for the finalisation and release of outcomes. This decision has been made to ensure that all administrative and governance processes are concluded responsibly and in a manner that safeguards the integrity of the adjudication process.

Accordingly, the NAC wishes to advise stakeholders that a revised date for the announcement of outcomes will be communicated in due course once all requisite governance and administrative processes have been appropriately concluded.

The NAC recognises the importance of this funding to artists, cultural organisations, and creative practitioners across South Africa, and acknowledges the uncertainty that delays may create within the sector. However, the organisation believes that it is essential that every application receives the thorough, fair, and transparent consideration it deserves. The additional time will allow management and evaluation structures to complete the process with the necessary diligence and accountability expected by the sector.

The NAC would like to reassure all applicants and stakeholders that operational processes remain active and that internal teams continue to work with urgency and commitment to conclude the adjudication process as efficiently as possible. Every effort is being made to maintain stability, continuity, and responsible governance throughout this period.

The NAC remains unwavering in its commitment to advancing, supporting, and strengthening South Africa’s vibrant and diverse creative and cultural sector. The organisation further expresses its sincere appreciation to all applicants and stakeholders for their continued patience, and understanding throughout this process.
