Media Statement: For immediate release 12 June 2026
The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) is pleased to announce that the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, the Honourable Gayton McKenzie, has seconded Mr Lebogang Mogoera as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and as Accounting Authority of the NAC.
The appointment follows the Minister’s decision to dissolve the NAC Council on 25 May 2026 and serves to ensure governance continuity, institutional stability and uninterrupted service delivery while the process to appoint a new Accounting Authority is underway.
Mr Mogoera joins the NAC from his current role as Chief Director: Infrastructure Support at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), where he has played a significant role in advancing infrastructure development and institutional support initiatives. He brings a wealth of public sector leadership experience, sound governance expertise and a deep understanding of the legislative and operational environment within which public entities function.
Importantly, Mr Mogoera is familiar with the National Arts Council, having previously served the organisation as an Acting Chief Executive Officer during a period of transition. His prior involvement with the institution provides valuable institutional knowledge that will support a smooth and seamless leadership transition. This experience, coupled with his extensive professional background, positions him well to provide strategic guidance and organisational stability during this important period.
