For Immediate Release
5 April 2021
Johannesburg:
The NAC has learnt with shock and disbelief the false allegations circulating, pertaining to the alleged forced removal of artists from its offices by the Red Ants. The Council and Management of the NAC wish to categorically state that these allegations are simply untrue and are fake news.
The false allegations and false news are deliberately being fueled with the sole intention to further perpetuate tension between the NAC and the cultural and creative sector for purposes only known to the individuals behind this.
The NAC intends to complete the PESP rollout by no later than 31st of May 2021 and the NAC is looking for amicable discourse to address all the PESP Funding issues of concern that are raised across all parts of the sector. To this end, forced removals of Artists from the NAC office is not an option.
This Council remains fully committed to completing the PESP process as soon as possible and to ensure that the PESP funds reach all the deserving and approved applicants so that projects retain and create the much-needed work opportunities without any further hindrance.
