National Arts Council (NAC) Response to the “Open Letter” to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture

National Arts Council (NAC) Response to the “Open Letter” to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture

We have noted comments from the former Council member, Mr Tshepo Mashiane, who was dismissed from the NAC on 10 November 2022 following a formal independent disciplinary hearing that found him guilty of serious charges.

The NAC will not be penning an “Open Letter” response to the public on his false allegations. However, we will directly respond to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Chairperson through our Shareholder, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture.

The NAC wishes to distance itself from the open letter published by Mr Tshepo Mashiane.

We do, however, wish to note that the NAC stands by its statements made during the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee as a true reflection of our position that transfers to the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra were implemented by Council procedurally and lawfully.

The NAC and Management are currently busy with preparations for the next calls for funding namely; the 2023 NAC Annual Call and PESP 4. We are looking forward to serving our artists and we will not be distracted from our duty to serve.

End.
