On behalf of the Council, Management and Staff of the National Arts Council, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The NAC has over the year embarked on a vision of rebuilding and stabilising the entity to enable us to better serve you. Even though more needs to be done with the limited resources available to the sector in general, we were able to reap significant and impactful gains from our strategy of being closer and accessible to our cultural and creative community, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
The NAC further committed to strengthening partnerships with local, regional and International arts organisations to ensure the exposure of our Proudly South African Art to the world, and as such, we were able to fund numerous artists to travel and showcase their works far beyond our borders.
As you all celebrate the holidays, I hope you also get a moment to reflect on the past year, and count the blessings of your life and the privilege you have had to be of service to others artistically and otherwise. And for those who may have not had an opportunity to realise their dreams, I implore you to not give up because “Great things take time to manifest”.
I wish to sincerely thank all our stakeholders from the bottom of our hearts for the support and constructive advice given to us during the year. Your authentic voices are what encouraged us to serve you excellently. We also wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our shareholder, the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) for their continuous support.
Finally, to all my colleagues at the NAC (Council Members, Management and Staff), thank you for your exceptional hard work and contribution to serving our sector. The success of all our funding programmes this year have been a testament of your commitment to serve. May we do this again collectively next year!
May you all have a Blessed Merry Christmas and an incredibly prosperous 2024.
With Love,
H.R.H. Princess Celenhle Dlamini
Chairperson of Council
