The NAC hosted an award ceremony for beneficiaries of the Special Company Funding in the North West Province. The event was held on Saturday, 15 November 2008 at Mmabana Theatre Complex in Mmabatho and was staged in conjunction with Provincial Arts and Culture Council (PACC) of the North West.
The event was officiated by Ms Itumeleng Rapoo and Ms Tshidi Matlou the Deputy Chairperson of the PACC gave a welcome address. Mr Moses Tumane the Deputy Director of Archives and Libraries in the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in the North West the key note address. The Acting-CEO of the NAC Mr Goodwin Mnisi also gave brief overview of the project and explained the structure and operations of the NAC in relation to its mandate.
The occasions also observed a moment of silence in honor of the late Mama Africa, Miriam Makeba for her contribution in the arts sector. Mr Johnny Masilela who is a Council Member for NAC gave a brief remark about the commitment of the council towards developing the arts and also emphasized the need for artists to work together with the PACC to have access to information about the sector and opportunities to develop their artistic work before officially handing over cheques to the beneficiaries.
Mr Jerry Nkuna, one of the recipients of the Special Company Funding from Lamathonsi Entertainment thanked the NAC on behalf of the other recipients for the contribution and the initiative. The other recipients of the funds who also performed during the event were Lyv Promotions, Mosekaphofu Cultural Mull, Tswelelang Cultural Group, Kopano Ke Matla Group and Crowded Crew.
The NAC would like to thank everyone who participated during the event to ensure its success.
