The National Arts Council presented two cheques to the value of R180 000 during the annual student showcase of VUT held at their campus on 21 November 2008. The cheques were presented as bursaries for the students studying Visual Arts and Design.
Prof. Phyllis Zungu, who is a member of the Council and Chairperson of the Craft Discipline was the guest speaker at the event and officially handed over the cheques to the university. In her remarks she highlighted that the NAC is pleased to support the students, and encouraged them to complete their studies for the benefit of the country. She also indicated that she was impressed by the quality of the work done by the students.
There was a fashion show as part of the activities in the evening. The modeled garments made by 3rd and 4th Year fashion design students from the Visual Arts and Design Department were immaculate and the audience was thrilled. The evening was filled with joy and excitement, and for a moment one would have thought we were in Milan or Paris.
The overall students work from the department was also displayed and open for viewing. Throughout the day, poetry, hip hop and dance was showcased in the VUT Amphitheatre as part of the event.
