NAC clarifies on the need to extend the call for funding to 19 June 2020
After many deliberations of whether to extend the call for project funding or not, the NAC has come to a realisation that a lot of beneficiaries, especially those in the under resourced areas, have been impacted severely by the national lockdown. A lot of applications have not been completed due to unavailability of resources such as printers and scanning equipment. We have therefore taken a resolution of extending the call to ensure that every prospective beneficiary receives a fair chance of being able to complete their applications and are able to access and attach all the necessary compliance documents.
As we are all aware that the arts are fundamentally about bringing crowds together, the sector is unquestionably one of the most affected in this time of the lockdown and social distancing. That also means that arts activities could be allowed to take place in the last stages of the national lockdown phasing approach. This calls for different ways of doing work and showcasing it. We would like to urge artists to reimagine new ways of interacting with audiences using unconventional but accessible digital platforms.
The NAC will be issuing out a new direction and guidelines that will be clarifying the application criteria for this unusual period. This will be on our website and other digital platforms soon.
Together we shall overcome this.
