Invitation for artists to participate in the International Gorée Diaspora Festival – Senegal-Dakar, 25-27 November 2016

The 8th Edition of the International Gorée Diaspora Festival will take place from 25-27 November 2016 in Dakar, Senegal. The theme of the festival is “MEMORY AND RESILIENCE,’’ from the past to the present, how can we heal the divides in human society?”

Closing date: 11 October 2016
Outcomes date: 28 October 2016

The International Gorée Diaspora Festival promotes its dual role as an Island of Memory: a meeting place for cultures and a space for reconciliation among people. The Gorée owes its present international fame to its status as a memorial site bearing witness to the slave trade as symbolised by the House of Slaves and its Door of No Return. The festival provides an opportunity for citizens of Africa and the Diaspora to express their cultural diversity and aspiration for greater social justice.

The National Arts Council will showcase original and outstanding indigenous and contemporary South African art forms at this prestigious platform. Proposals supported by portfolios of work may be submitted to the NAC by young talented professional performing artists, visual artists and gastronomists for consideration.

Prospective applicants are required to fill in the Gorée Diaspora Festival form detailing the project’s concept and submit samples of work in the form of DVDs, pictures and videos. The cost of participation in the festival will be borne by the NAC. Applicants are required to have a valid South African Passport.
