Call For Applications For Funding 2018: Arts Projects And International Bursaries

The National Arts Council finds itself at a critical juncture in reinventing itself to remain relevant in an ever-changing sector and following a strategic realignment process, the NAC is proud to announce its strategic move from a discipline-based approach to and introduce a programmatic approach to funding which will see funding allocation to beneficiaries located within specified programmes instead of individual disciplines.

Individual artists and organisations active in the disciplines of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, craft, literature and multi-discipline are invited to submit their applications for project funding specifying programmes within which they believe their projects would focus.

Closing date: 22 June 2018
Outcomes date: 30 September 2018

Individuals and registered arts organisations can apply for funding in the following programmes: Social Cohesion and Nation Building; Innovation, Design and Creation of New Work; Capacity Building; Strategic Initiatives, Platforms, Exhibitions and Festivals. Projects proposed should be of national significance taking into account creation of new works, arts development, arts promotion, job creation, capacity building in arts entrepreneurship and facilitation of access to the arts. Furthermore, applications that promote environmental sustainability, nation building and social cohesion and have a strong community base conceived in collaboration with others working in similar fields will be preferable. Proposed projects must demonstrate impact and value for the communities they operate in. The project applied for must fulfil two (2) or more of the following arts outcomes, economic value, creative value, social value, therapeutic value and educational value. This invitation also encourages arts organisations and individuals that support the involvement of women, youth and people living with disabilities particularly in historically disadvantaged areas.

Post-graduate students wishing to pursue arts studies abroad in the fields of Craft, Dance, Literature, Multi-discipline, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts are also invited to apply. Students willing to access NAC funding should be prepared to return to and work in South Africa to support the development of the arts in the country.
