Annual Project Funding
An annual invitation to individuals, organisations and institutions active in the arts and culture sector to submit an arts or culture project proposal for funding.
Arts Organisation Support Funding
Open to arts organisations that have been in existence for at least three years. It is a multi-year funding for art companies or organisations with a proven track record of sound management, governance and artistic merit. This funding is opened once every three years or as the NAC Council prescribes.
Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP)
Geared towards employment creation and retention initiatives for artists, creatives, heritage sector workers and cultural workers. This Programme aims to provide economic stimulation to support sector initiatives that create jobs in the creative and cultural sectors through an open call for funding. PESP forms part of the Government’s intervention to re-activate the sector for economic recovery and reconstruction, post the COVID-19 pandemic devastation.
Bursaries
Local Post-Graduate Bursaries
Bursaries are offered to students studying towards an arts qualification. Bursaries are offered towards an Arts qualification at any institution of Higher Learning and Further Education Training levels in South Africa and abroad.
International bursaries will be offered only when there is proof that South African tertiary institutions do not offer the course or qualification applied for. Applicants who have been accepted at prestigious institutions may be considered. Post graduate qualifications will be funded on academic merit.
Students achieving less than 65% will not be considered. In the case where proof exists that tuition fees are already covered from other sources, funding may be directed towards accommodation, books, travel and subsistence allowance.
The NAC Bursary Funding aims to provide financial part-time or full-time support for aspirant arts practitioners looking to gain related knowledge and skills base and attain an art qualification at any Institution of Higher Learning and Further Education Training levels in South Africa and abroad.

International Bursary Funding programme
This initiative is designed to support the professional growth and development of exceptionally talented arts practitioners and administrators by providing financial assistance for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at an international level.
Block Institutional Bursaries
are earmarked for the undergraduate level. Higher Education and Training Institutions as well as Further Education and Training Institutions which offer art tuition are eligible to apply for a block bursary on behalf of their undergraduate students. Undergraduate students cannot apply directly to the NAC for this funding.
