Mentorship script writing development programme
The mentorship script writing development programme is in line with the NAC objectives for developing and advancing the arts. The programme aim is to improve the standard of creative writing and it further emphasises the telling of South African stories for emerging writers.
In 2009 the NAC funded nine budding script writers to be part of the initiative; the nine writers were mentored by professional script writers. The nine scripts were read for the public in Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2009 for further development based on notes from the audience. Out of the nine scripts only two were chosen as the best written, well developed and ready for production.
The NAC in partnership with the Windybrow Centre for the Arts staged the two productions, namely, “Modus Vivedi “written by Pepe Khambule and directed by young director Vice Motshabi a graduate from the Market Theatre Laboratory and NAC bursary beneficiary. The other script “Sacred Women” was written by Nontsikelelo Dipudi and directed by Oscar Motsikoe also a graduate from the Market Theatre Laboratory and is currently a drama teacher. Due to public demand the two productions will be showcased at the National Arts Festival 2011, Grahamstown.
