The Best Art Centre - Limpopo

The organisation was established in the year 2005 as a Non Profit Organisation (NPO). It is the brainchild of former Fuba (school of dramatic and creative arts) student who studied through the NAC’s bursary. The organisation is based in Belabela, Limpopo Province.

The organisation offers training courses for students in Performing Arts, Arts and Culture Administration and Craft Enterprise. This is the only institution providing such services in the area. Funding to the Best Arts Centre was earmarked for arts training, exhibitions, performances and community outreach programmes.

In the year 2010 the organisation exhibited during the FIFA Soccer World Cup, the Belabela Craft market and Klein Kariba. The theatre production by learners of the institution “From Zero to Hero” was performed at the Mangaung Cultural Festival. They also co-hosted the BelaBela Arts Festival with the Waterberg District Municipality.

Breytenbach Cultural Centre - Western Cape

The Breytenbach Cultural Centre is a multidisciplinary cultural centre established in 2007. It is housed in a building previously owned by the prolific and well known poet, Breyten Breytenbach. The aim of the centre is to develop cultural and creative activities in Grevilleas, Wellington. Amongst its other objectives it aims to develop theatre, visual arts, drama, music, and creative writing.

The centre presents itself as a redress project; it addresses past imbalances, fosters reconciliation through the arts and develops pride within members. Furthermore, it is a job creation project. The creative needlework project was initiated for unemployed women from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The centre has also organised a Bollemakiesie/Ikhonco Festival. Ikhonco is a Xhosa word meaning chains. The aim is to use the arts to change people’s lives and to build stronger links among people from different races. The drama project benefitted learners between 10 – 17 years of age from disadvantaged communities in and around Wellington. For more information visit www.welington.co.za

Northern Arts Festival - Eastern Cape

The NAF was established during 2007 with its objective of celebrating heritage and culture of the Nelson Mandela Bay and bridging the divide between community development and the arts. The festival is the brainchild of Billy Paulson and other volunteers with offices located at Port Elizabeth.

This festival creates a platform for artists and performers that will not have opportunities to showcase their talents. It further creates short term employment opportunities and entertainment. For more information visit www.northernarts.co.za
